Based on the PSP role-playing game produced by Nihon Falcom, Legend of Heroes the Animation was released late 2011. Ten years ago, a massive invasion by the Erebonian Empire nearly destroyed the Liberl Kingdom, making it all the way to the heart of capital City before being forced back by Cassius Bright’s counteroffensive. Liberl is slowly rebuilding with use of “Craft”. However, this is all ancient history to Estelle Bright that she learned of as a child. However history repeats and as Estelle and her adopted brother prepare to join the Guild who uses “Craft”, they find sinister forces are taking shape. Based on the eight title of the Tales series by Namco Bandai, Tales of the Abyss follows the life of Luke fon Fabre as he discovers the world outside his royal home. Having been kidnapped seven years ago, Luke has been confined to the family mansion. The shock of the kidnapping erased all of Luke’s memories prior to the event. A mysterious woman breaks into the mansion and sets off a sequence of events that turns Luke’s life upside down. The Score, the scripture which holds the world’s prophetic future, is put into question as clones, death, and nefarious intent is revealed with Luke at the center.
Advent Children, taking place two years after the events of the highly successful role-playing game Final Fantasy VII, is a 2005 animated film directed by Tetsuya Nomura, and written by Kazushige Nojima. If you haven’t played Final Fantasy VII, the plot may be a bit confusing, as some dialogue refers to in-game events. The story itself revolves around the appearance of a trio that kidnaps children infected with a strange illness called the “Geostigma”(also known as the Sephiroth Gene and Jenova’s Memetic Legacy), which no known cure has been achieved. The trio aim to take revive Sephiroth and use the Geostigma-infected children to control the Lifestream, an ethereal substance called Mako, that holds the spirit of life and of the dearly departed. Advent Children has won many awards and much praise and critique.
P4 is a 2011-2012 animated series based on the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 video game by Atlus. City boy Yu Narukami is staying with his uncle and cousin in small town Inaba for his second year of high school, as his parents are working abroad. A serial killer is killing off people left and right in strange and bizarre circumstances in this new town. Yu acquires a strange power called “Persona” and starts on a journey to figure out what is behind these murders with a group of friends. They discover that the murders happen at midnight in a distorted TV world that they name the “Midnight Channel”. Follow them as they find the culprit.
