Review: Vacation

(Goodreads reviews)

In the near future after a global crisis causes crops to fail and species to disappear . . .  something even more deadly happens. Groups of humans around the world suddenly become predators, feeding off their own kind. These “Can Heads” grow to such a threat that fences, gated compounds, and SWAT-style police protection become absolutely necessary in order to live.

I really wanted to like this book but just couldn’t get into it. Normally I would cut my losses and move on but it is a rather quick read and it zipped by as I was looking for more substance.

There is a rather curious and interesting take on the “zombie apocalypse” genre that is very similar to “Haters” by David Moody – not really zombies but definitely not human; super violent creatures that have been “changed” somehow.

This book has received really good reviews and it came recommended to me, but there is a lack of depth to the back-story that left me disengaged. Characters don’t even speculate about the change, it just is the way it is… I like a little more speculation and curiosity.
